General Michel Suleiman was born in Amsheet, North Lebanon on 21 November 1948. Having obtained a degree in Political Science and Administration he was admitted into the Lebanese Military Academy as a cadet officer in 1967. He rose to occupy several key Posts in the military some of which include Section Leader, Battalion Commander and Head of the Intelligence Service for the Mount Lebanon Region.

            Among his decorations are the Medal of War, Insignia of the Knight of the Order of Lebanese Merits, Medals of National Unity, Military Esteem and the Dawn of the South.

General Michel Suleiman was elected President of the Republic of Lebanon on 25 May 2008 with an overwhelming vote in his favour after a delayed presidential election ending Lebanon’s 6 months of a Presidential vacuum.

ولد العماد ميشال سليمان في عمشيت، شمال لبنان، في 21 تشرين الثاني 1948. حصل على إجازة في العلوم السياسية، ومن ثم التحق بالمؤسسة العسكرية عام 1967 برتبة طالب عسكري. وحصل على ترقيات عدّة، واحتل مراكز مهمة في الجيش، بما في ذلك قائد سرية، ورئيس جهاز الاستخبارات في منطقة جبل لبنان.

 وحصل على العديد من الأوسمة، ومنها وسام الحرب، ووسام شرف من رتبة فارس، ووسام الوحدة الوطنية، ووسام الشرف العسكري وفجر الجنوب.

 إنتُخب العماد ميشال سليمان رئيساً للجمهورية اللبنانية في 25 أيار 2008، بغالبية أصوات المجلس، بعد فراغ رئاسي دام ستة أشهر.
