President Umaru Yar’ Adua was born into a politically active family in Katsina 0State of Nigeria. He graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with a Masters degree in Chemistry in 1980.

He commenced his political career in the late 70s as a member of the leftist Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and later joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He subsequently joined the ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was elected twice as the Governor of Katsina State in 1999 and 2003 respectively on the platform of the Party.

During his tenure as Governor of Katsina State, the State witnessed significant improvement in the agricultural and health sectors and general economic growth.

            He was nominated as the Presidential candidate for the PDP in 2006 and won the ticket of the Presidency in 2007.

ولد الرئيس عمر يار أيودا في أسرة ناشطة سياسياً، في منطقة كاتسينا في نيجيريا. تخرّج من جامعة أحمد بلو، وحصل على إجازة في الكيمياء سنة 1980.

 عام 2006، عين كمرشح رئاسي عن الحزب الديمقراطي الشعبي، وربح الانتخابات الرئاسية عام 2007
